'Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology' Costume Institute Gala - After Parties

Kim Kardashian and the Kardashian clan might be the closest thing America has to a royal family. Anything she does turns the internet upside down. Social media discusses whether she deserves the attention (as the other half is going completely nuts about what she’s doing) and publications all over the world rush to report on her actions. With her ability to make people pay attention at any moment, despite not really possessing any talent that warrants such attention, it’s only fitting that Kim be awarded for her show-stopping abilities.

“The Webbys credit Kim with creating “a new kind of celebrity,” one that publicizes her family and family life with the help of the internet. From supporting Caitlyn Jenner to releasing her own emoji platform Kimojis, the Webbys found Kim’s use of the internet innovative.”

IADAS felt Kim was “the leading celebrity in terms of her online presence and understanding of how to connect with a global audience via social media, apps, and online video.”

“Kim has set the standard incredibly high. It is to her credit that the phrase “break the Internet” is part of the lexicon of everyday speak—she has shaped our understanding of how someone or something can draw the popular attention of Internet users everywhere.”

Welcome to 2016, where people receive awards for being able to keep themselves popular. In the age where it feels like everyone has attention deficit disorder, it really is impressive that Kim has been able to hold everyone’s attention for this long.
