The U.S. Postal Service celebrates the life and legacy of Lena Horne as the 41st honoree in the Black Heritage stamp series.

This honor “celebrates a woman who used her platform as a renowned entertainer to become a prolific voice for civil rights advancement and gender equality.”

Lena Mary Calhoun Horne was born June 30, 1917 and passed away on May 9, 2010 after a stellar career. She was a jazz and pop music singer, dancer, actress, and civil rights activist. Horne’s career spanned over 70 years appearing in film, television, and theater.

What a great honor for a great legend.
