Don Jackson, the founder of the Stellar Gospel Music Awards is spearheading the project to establish a gospel music museum on Chicago’s South Side which will be the first in the country.

The National Museum of Gospel Music will be built on the site of the Pilgrim Baptist Church in the Bronzeville neighborhood. The Church’s music director and blues pianist in 1932 was Thomas Dorsey who we know was is known as the Father of Gospel Music. The church burned down in 2006 leaving just the exterior walls, but it is going to be restored, with plans for exhibitions, an auditorium and a listening library.

Jackson founder of the Stellar Gospel Music Awards is leading the project, which is expected to cost 32 million. He has also donated 1M of his own money.

Museum opening? September 2020 which former President Barack Obama designated Gospel Music Heritage Month.

Certainly this is great news, for people who love gospel music and also for those of us who have dedicated their lives to it. Can’t wait.
