At least one person was killed and more than a dozen were injured when a large crane collapsed in Manhattan’s busy Financial District Friday morning, a senior city official tells NBC 4 New York.
The collapse was reported near Worth and Church streets shortly before 8:30 a.m., fire officials said.
Fire officials say two people are being evaluated at the scene. It’s not clear if anyone else was injured.
Images from the scene show the crane crashed on a narrow lower Manhattan street, resting atop several smashed cars that were apparently parked. The crane also hit a few buildings as it came down, the city official said.
