Two teenagers are facing charges in Anne Arundel County after police say they kicked in the door of a home—an act possibly tied to a dangerous TikTok trend known as the “door-kick challenge.”

Officers responded to a burglary call just after 3 a.m. Monday on the 7900 block of Sutherland Court. When they arrived, a homeowner reported that someone had kicked in her front door, damaging the frame.

Police later located a 14-year-old and a 13-year-old nearby. Shortly after, a second homeowner on Old Crown Drive reported that the same two teens had attempted to kick in their door as well.

Authorities identified and charged both boys.

Justin Mulcahy, spokesperson for the Anne Arundel County Police Department, said the incidents bear the hallmarks of a viral trend making its way across the country.

“It’s concerning all the way around,” Mulcahy said. “Based on how this was done, we believe this may be part of the door-kick challenge circulating on TikTok.”

The trend involves teens recording themselves kicking in residential doors—usually in the early morning hours—and sharing the footage online.

“Who knows for what reason, other than to videotape themselves doing this,” Mulcahy added.

He urged parents to speak with their children about the serious risks and legal consequences of participating in social media stunts like this.

“What may seem like a funny prank to a child is not,” he said. “You’re infringing on someone’s rights and entering their property uninvited.”

Mulcahy also warned that such actions could escalate quickly.

“There could be a reaction,” he said. “We don’t want any violent encounters.”
