In this day and age when police brutality, sexism and racism are at an all time high, it’s pretty imperative that oppressed peoples stay aware of the conflict surrounding them in order to make a change. The turmoil in America has even forced privileged Hollywood stars to speak out against the blatant injustices going on today. Check out these nine A-lister who you probably didn’t know were awakened from society’s deep sleep. #StayWoke

1. Lady Gaga

Years from now, Gaga will be remembered for a lot of things — but her compassion and love for the people is what her monsters were remember the most. Back before being woke was trend, the singer publicly protesting things like Arizona’s controversial immigration law SB 1070. She even publicly supported the Black Lives Matter movement by chanting it out loud at a Hillary Clinton rally.

2. J.K. Rowling

The author of the wildly popular “Harry Potter” series had it pretty rough before making it big as a writer. Billions of dollars later, she can frequently be seen dragging Twitter trolls for making racist comments about featuring people of color in her work.

3. Meryl Streep

Meryl Streep has been in the game for a long time and has dealt with her fair share of trolls— the biggest one being Donald Trump. The Oscar winning actress has stood up against the lack of diversity in the film industry, saying once that “we’re all Africans, originally,” and that she would not “defend the all-white jury, nor would I, if I had been asked to do so” at last year’s Berlin International Film Festival.

4. Cher

Cher is by far one of the most surprising woke celebs on the list. We knew that the Armenian pop star always stood out from her peers, but what we didn’t know is that she had the knowledge and wisdom to clap back at even the greatest of Internet trolls.
