Ever hear of a state’s official book? On April 4, the Tennessee Senate voted 19-8 for the Holy Bible to be theirs.

While some believe it’s important to make the Bible the official book of Tennessee because America was founded by “men of faith,” others believe it’d be an endorsement of religion, according to The Tennessean.

Despite the pushback, Tennesseans have succeeded in moving this bill up the ranks. From a legislative committee to the Senate, next up is the governor’s approval. If passed, Tennessee will be the first state to recognize the Holy Bible as its “official book.”

The state of Louisiana tried to pass a similar bill back in 2014, but it was withdrawn.
