Water Restored in Cockeysville After Main Break; York Road Still Closed
Water service has been fully restored to homes and businesses in Cockeysville after a massive water main break Friday afternoon left residents without water and flooded York Road.
Crews from the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) worked through the weekend to repair the 30-inch water main near 11223 York Road. By Sunday, water service was back online.
However, York Road remains closed between Schilling and Ashland roads while crews complete site repairs. DPW expects the road to reopen later this week.

Businesses along York Road were forced to close over the weekend due to flooding and road closures, while some reported a sharp decline in customers.
On Saturday, Baltimore County set up a water distribution site in Cockeysville to provide bottled water to residents.
“We bought as many pallets as we could,” said Alonza Williams, director of the county’s Office of Community Engagement. “We wanted to make sure everyone had clean water while repairs were underway.”
County officials said there is no longer a need to conserve water.
What to Do After a Water Main Break
DPW recommends these steps to ensure your water is safe and clear:
- Run cold water: Let taps run for 5–10 minutes to flush out sediment.
- Avoid hot water: Don’t use hot water until cold water runs clear, to prevent sediment buildup in your water heater.
- Clean aerators: Rinse faucet screens to remove debris.
- Check for discoloration: Continue flushing if water appears discolored. If it doesn’t clear, call DPW at the number above.
