The field of candidates running for Mayor of Baltimore got a little more crowded over the weekend, with Catherine Pugh and Carl Stokes announcing their candidacy.  This brings the total number of people running in the Democratic primary to eight, including current Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, former Mayor Shelia Dixon, with more expected to announce their candidacy before the February 3rd cutoff for the April 26th primary election.  The primary traditionally has determined who will be the mayor of the city.

Other candidates who have been rumored to run include Councilman Nick J. Mosby, State Delegate Jill P. Carter, and author Wes Moore.

Stokes, a current City Councilman, ran for mayor in the 1999 election, finishing second – behind former Mayor Martin O’Malley.

Catherine Pugh, is a State Senator and the Maryland Senate Majority Leader.
