President Obama has finally put his foot down to Russia for their alleged meddling in the 2016 Presidential election.

According to CNN, the White House handed down serious sanctions against four Russian individuals and five Russian entities for election interference. In addition, POTUS’ administration ordered 35 Russian diplomats to leave the country and forced two Russian compounds to be closed.

The news site noted that this is the first time that Russian officials have been called out publicly for their role in interfering in the recent election.

“Russia’s cyberactivities were intended to influence the election, erode faith in US democratic institutions, sow doubt about the integrity of our electoral process, and undermine confidence in the institutions of the US government,” a White House statement said.

“These actions are unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”

POTUS was clear: The named Russian diplomats and their families have 72 hours to leave the US.

CNN also noted that the White House also separately sanctioned two Russian individuals, Evgeniy Mikhailovich Bogachev and Alexey Belan, for allegedly causing the misappropriation of funds and personal identifying information.

“These actions follow repeated private and public warnings that we have issued to the Russian government, and are a necessary and appropriate response to efforts to harm US interests in violation of established international norms of behavior,” Obama said in the statement.

Not surprisingly, President-elect Donald Trump doesn’t agree with President Obama’s current actions as he has consistently downplayed Russia’s role in the outcome of the November’s election that deemed him the winner.

“It’s time for our country to move on to bigger and better things,” Trump said in a statement. “Nevertheless, in the interest of our country and its great people, I will meet with leaders of the intelligence community next week in order to be updated on the facts of this situation.”

In addition, Russia isn’t happy with Obama calling it “hostile steps” and calling it “lame.”

This is a developing story and we will provide updates as they become available.
