Viola Davis and Steph Curry are teaming up as executive producers to make a documentary about the 2015 Charleston church shooting at Mother Emanuel African Methodist Church where nine African American members were murdered.
The film is called “Emanuel” and it features never before seen interviews with survivors and family members of the victims, and tells the painful but hopeful story of a murder that shocked the nation, and an act of forgiveness that helped it heal.
The film is being made in partnership with the city of Charleston and the victim’s families.
The “Emanuel” team is looking for a distribution partner for the film, which is a big reason Davis and Curry came on board. Let’s hope they find one soon.
