President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama were part of some of our favorite moments of the year, but the First Couple is now sharing which songs, films, and books won their hearts in 2015.
Speaking with PEOPLE Magazine, Barack and Michelle dished on some of the biggest moments of the year, including the passing of the monumental same-sex marriage bill and their volunteer drives for veterans. FLOTUS shared how working with young people, veterans, and schools will always stay close to her heart.
The couple also loosened things up by discussing their favorite songs of the year. Michelle went for “Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson. The jam was a massive hit this year, reaching over a billion views on YouTube. For POTUS, “How Much A Dollar Cost,” a cut from Kendrick Lamar’s critically acclaimed album To Pimp A Butterfly, was a surefire favorite.
Meanwhile, some of Michelle’s favorite moments almost moved her to tears.
She tells PEOPLE:
“I once spent some time with girls at a school in Cambodia, and one of them read me a poem she had written about Let Girls Learn, our initiative to help girls worldwide go to school,” the First Lady shares. “It was beautiful – I was trying so hard not to cry!”
As for movies, Obama picked Matt Damon’s The Martian, while Michelle went with the Disney-Pixar feature Inside Out.
The couple both agreed on their favorite TV shows–the Cinemax drama series The Knick and ABC’s black-ish.
The show was recently nominated for 10 NAACP Image Award nominations.
