Police: Suspect in Jada Sellers Shooting Dies From Self-Inflicted Gunshot

Baltimore police said Friday that 18-year-old Christian Hursey, who was wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Jada Sellers, died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound as officers served a search warrant at a Baltimore residence.
According to the Baltimore Police Department, a SWAT team entered the home around 8:30 p.m. Thursday while searching for Hursey. Police said officers heard a single gunshot coming from the basement and found Hursey suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hursey was wanted in connection with the July 31 shooting of Sellers in the 700 block of Lyndhurst Street in Southwest Baltimore. Sellers died nearly two weeks later at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley called the case a tragic outcome involving the deaths of two young people. He extended condolences to both families and said the department continues to recognize the devastating impact of gun violence.
Sellers was a student at Milford Mill Academy, where she served as vice president of the Student Government Association and was a member of the National Honor Society. Family members said she also enjoyed dancing and cheerleading and was surrounded by a strong network of relatives and friends.
Sellers’ cousin, Heber Brown III, previously said Sellers and Hursey had been in a relationship and that her family had welcomed him into their home. Brown said the family has relied on faith and community support while grieving Sellers’ death while seeking answers, support and healing.
