As national attention on the disaster in Flint, Michigan slowly fades, the devastation remains. Gospel Music veteran Ricky Dillard recently joined the growing list of celebrities lending their notoriety and resources to the water crisis in Flint.

We spoke exclusively with the Grammy nominated artist who sent several hundred bottles of water to aid in relief efforts:

I feel so bad for the people of Flint. I have a few singers of my choir, New G who live in the area. It is a crime when citizens can’t even be assured of clean drinking water. The problem is greater than anything I can fix personally, but if everyone that can, does something…that may ease the burden for those in need.

Singers Aretha Franklin, The Game, Karen Clark SheardKem, Cher and Snoop Dog are among other notable names lending their tangible aid to the cause.

In case you are unaware, a state of emergency has been declared in Flint after residents were exposed to lead poisoning that their civic leaders knew about.

The city’s residents have been told not to drink unfiltered tap water. After the city switched away from Detroit water to save money in 2014, the new water wasn’t properly treated and allowed lead from pipes to leach into drinking water.

Things have gotten so bad in the area that Flint Community Schools can only use bottled water in school buildings for drinking and cooking meals. Drinking fountains were turned off, and it’s unclear when they’ll be turned on. Schools, homes,  soup kitchens and churches are just some places that need clean bottled water or cash donations to purchase water.
