16-year-old Amy Inita Joyner-Francis was reportedly beaten to death after being jumped by a group of girls in the bathroom of her Wilmington, Delaware high school. According to reports, Amy was fighting another female student over a boy when a group of girls jumped in. Student Kayla Wilson, who witnessed the deadly altercation, told reporters,
“She was fighting a girl, and then that’s when all these other girls started banking her, like jumping her- and she hit her head on the sink.”
Paramedics attempted to resuscitate Amy, then air lifted to A.I. duPont Hospital for Children where she died, reports DelawareOnline.com.
Wilmington Mayor Dennis Williams addressed the fatal incident in a press conference. “Things like this shouldn’t happen. My heart bleeds for the family, the kids that go to this school, administrators, and our city,” he said.
One of the girls involved in the fight allegedly posted a message on Instagram apologizing and asking for forgiveness.
The fight was allegedly caught on tape. Detectives reportedly interviewed several students and have taken two girls have been into custody.
